Noosa in Queensland, Australia is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, and one of Australia's most popular tourism destinations. And for good reason with its beautiful beaches, and stunning hinterland regions nearby.

And for Artists it provides an endless amount of quality painting subjects that you never tire of.

In this 3 day Plein Air painting workshop we will be painting on location along Noosa River, main beach and the river mouth, and more.

As you can see there are some stunning scenes around Noosa that make for great subjects to paint.

This is a Sketchbook workshop:


Sketch in any of the following mediums:

- Pencil
- Pastel
- Charcoal
- Pen & Wash
- Watercolour
- Gouache

Rod will be demonstrating mostly with Gouache but you can use any medium that you like that is suitable for sketchbook work.

A great opportunity to collect lots of reference materials and subjects to paint back in your studio.

Wednesday 7th June

8:30am - 11:30am - Noosa River (Near Yacht Club)

11:30am - 1:30pm - Lunch (Plenty of Cafes Nearby)

1:30pm - 4:30pm - Noosa River (Northern End facing River Mouth)

6:00pm - 8:00pm - Pizza Night At Rod's Studio

Thursday 8th June

7:30am - 10:30am - Noosa Main Beach (Early start to capture morning light)

10:30am - 1pm - Lunch & Shopping Hastings Street

1:pm - 4:00pm - Noosa River Mouth (Optional Noosa Beach)

Friday 9th June

8:30am - 11:30am - Stumers Beach Coolum

11:30am - 1pm - Lunch 

1:30pm - 4:00pm - Coolum Beach

4:00pm Farewell

This will be 3 days for you to escape your regular life and just relax in the warmth of the Noosa sun and allow your creative side to come out as we paint some iconic locations around the Noosa River and Beaches.

On the first night we will have a pizza night in Rod's studio so that you can get to know your fellow artists who have joined us for the workshop.

Each day your instructor will do a demonstration painting, and then assist you with your painting to help you get the most out of the workshop.

How Do I Get To Noosa?

Noosa is about 1 1/2 hours north of Brisbane via the Bruch Highway.

If coming from Interstate you fly into Brisbane Airport and hire a car from the airport. It's an easy drive up the Bruce Highway.

Alternatively you can fly to Maroochydore Airport and hire a car from there. The Maroochydore Airport is on the Sunshine Coast and is only about 30 minutes drive to Noosa up the Sunshine Coast Motorway

Weather In Noosa

The weather conditions are usually great in May. 

Average maximum temperature of 24c and the sea temperature average is 15c which is ideal for painting outdoors.

Do I Need To Bring My Own Equipment?

Yes you will need to bring all your own equipment, painting supplies, easels etc.

Prior to the event we will provide you with a video run through of the equipment you will need and a written checklist

Is This Class For Beginners?

Yes we have designed this workshop to be suitable for beginners to intermediate levels.

Rod will demonstrate twice each day how he goes about painting with the Moore Method of Painting.

While it is designed for beginners to follow along we do recommend if you are new to painting that you go through the Learn To Paint Introduction course and have a go at the four demonstration paintings prior to this event.

Will This Be In The Studio or Outdoors?

This three day event is a Plein Air Painting workshop. Plein Air is the french term for on location (or in the open air).

So no ... this will not be in the studio it will be on location as per the itinerary posted above.

Please be aware that there will be some walking involved and carrying of equipment from the car to the painting site. We have tried to organise the locations for ease of access however there is naturally still some walking required. We recommend you keep your equipment as light as possible.

What Painting Medium Will This Be In?

This is a sketchbook workshop. So any medium you can use for sketchbooks is fine.

Rod's demonstrations will be with gouache, pencil, and pen and wash.
